Find the Link with Sheng Ran: Interdisciplinary Emerging Research Lecture Series

Join the NRT LinQ team for the first in our interdisciplinary lecture series, featuring Dr. Sheng Ran, professor in physics.

Join us on Monday February 26th at 4pm in Compton Hall 241 for the first in our emerging research in interdisciplinary fields lecture series with Sheng Ran.

Title: What can we make with uranium other than the atomic bomb?

Abstract:For most people, uranium means radioactivity. Sheng Ran spend more than half of his career on uranium to explore its other aspects. Uranium electrons are on the border of being localized and itinerant. Uranium has large spin orbital coupling that is crucial for topological properties. Uranium has complicated orbitals that allows for coexistence of competing phases. All of these make uranium materials quantum. In this talk, Dr. Ran will showcase fascinating uranium quantum materials that he studied in his lab.
