Innovation and Tech Transfer Winter Boot Camp

Sponsored by NRT LinQ and Office of Technology Management, join us for a series of workshops to help bring your research into the commercial sector.

We have a tremendous opportunity this winter to gain exposure to patenting, technology transfer, and startup company topics.  We will engage with leaders in the Office of Technology Management (WashU) and some others in the startup community in St. Louis for a week-long stroll through the innovation and tech transfer landscape.

Dates:  Mon. Jan. 22 – Fri. Jan. 26

Times:  12pm-3pm; Wednesday from 8:30am-11:30am

Locations: Please email Charlie Stewart charlenes@wustl.edu to indicate your interest and receive the locations.

This training is modular, so you can attend the parts that fit best with your interests:

Part 1 (Monday – Tuesday):

Inventing in an Academic Lab – details about invention disclosures and how to identify ideas with commercial potential

Understanding Intellectual Property (IP) – all you wanted to know about patents, IP, and “prior art”

Part 2 (Wednesday):

Developing Strong Assets and Partnering Technologies – translational funding, licensing, and exposure to market research

Part 3 (Thursday – Friday):

University Startups – learning the basics about startup formation

Engaging with Investors and Raising Capital – how to raise funds for a startup and resources available at WashU

Parts 1 and 2 are useful for anyone thinking about how to translate research from university labs to the industrial or commercial sectors.  Part 3 is aimed at people who are curious about startup formation (or joining one).  You can attend the entire week, or attend those parts that fit best with your interests!
